”Sorcerers channel the potency of purest magic. Their mystical disks direct unseen energies to damage many foes at once, as well as guarding the flanks of others and breaking up charges. The side with the most capable sorcerer often wins the engagement.” - Tera-Europe.com

Welcome ladies and gents to my first preview of the sorcerer class. My name is G-Fruit and I will hopefully be posting my thoughts about the class that I have chosen to play in the vast world of Tera. This will be a first hand look at the Sorcerer class from my perspective. I will share with you my first thoughts of the Sorcerer as well as some facts that we know so far. So without any further ado, lets dig in!

As the above statement points out a Sorcerer uses strong magic attacks to best there foes. Focusing arcane pulses through there disk like weapons to use different schools of magic.
Its the main damage dealing caster class. Now lets not rule out mystics and priests, but the Sorcerer is the only class designed to be a full fledged damage dealing caster.
To accomplish this the they use many different schools of magic, including fire, ice, poison (or nature if you like, I will include the lightning trap with the nature school)and arcane. These schools all work well together to make the Sorcerer the amazing damage dealer that it is. With most of its attacks being instant the caster is a great class for the moving battlefield, easily dodging and evading incoming attacks using different evasive skills. These evasive skills combined with the ease of casting makes the sorcerer one of the more agile classes in Tera.

You won't have to play through many levels before you get the feeling that you are some what over powered. There are many different kinds of spells. From the usual Fireball, the AoE (Area of Effect) poisonous Pain blast and to the Ice needle. With this huge amount of spells, I reckon the Sorcerer will be one of the more complex DPS classes in Tera. Another thing that makes it a more compelling class for me at least is the whole aiming system that Tera implements for... everything. You need to time you casts while mobs move to evade you attacks. There is nothing like the rush (or perhaps anger) you get when a mob just barely evades your attack that you have been charging up for quite some time. The players will have to adapt to these kinds of situations in Tera, unlike other MMOs on the market. I've played a mage in other MMOs (like WoW and Rift) and I can tell you this, the mage in WoW might have more spells than the mage in Tera, but the excitement that you feel when that first Fireball hits your target is just undescribable. Then again thats just me, but the feeling is something else, I can tell you that much! The only restriction of the sorcerer is its max range. The majority of the spells only reach up to 18 meters. With the exception of Arcane Pulse and Void pulse, which both reach up to 21 meters. This limited range can and will get on your nerves at some point. Then again you won't be out ranged by most of the other classes. The only note worthy skill that reaches further than 18 meters is the archers Velik's Mark (essentially a hunters mark from WoW) and the mystics main attack. Another note worthy aspect of the sorcerers spell arsenal is the addition of piercing spells. So what is a piercing spell? Take the Ice needle as an example. As the it hits the enemy it will go straight through them and continue its original course. With this in mind, the sorcerer won't be able to just throw spells around at random. Once again its all about timing and situation awareness. A more experienced sorcerer will move to line the mobs up to execute deadly combos with their piercing skills and other AoEs.
When it comes to close quarter engagements the sorcerer has quite a few spells as well. With the Flame pillar skill (which I personally think is rubbish, but thats just because it doesn't match my play style) the sorcerer is able to deal quite the substantial damage up close and then use an evasive damage dealing spell to slip away. To conclude this paragraph I'd like to say that the sorcerer has a spell for every situation. It's a class that will be feared (and hated) in PvP and wanted in PvE.

So to summarize, what do we know:

Its the main caster damage dealing class
It uses several schools of magic
Few classes will be able to stay at the same level as a good sorcerer when it comes to raw DPS and AoE damage.
Its one of the more agile classes, with lots of evasive skills and crowd controls.
Its a class that require situational awareness as well as split second reactions.'

This was just my first look at the sorcerer class, in the near future I will share my first experience as a sorcerer with you as well as; sorcerer and PvP/PvE, Choosing the best race and much much more. I hope you enjoyed you reading and lets all have a great time blowing things up when Tera is released on the western market.

If you have any questions about the Sorcerer, just leave a comment and I will answer them to the best of my abilities.

Best Regards
Fruit
